[Section I: Iwami Kagura] Nô Dances
Dainankô

Under orders from Emperor Godaigo, Kusunoki Masashige (1294-1336) (also called Dainankô) leads the Imperial Army to Minato River, where they meet Ashikaga Takauji (1305-1358), a military commander serving the Kamakura Shôgunate, who is traveling east from Kyûshû. A fierce battle ensues and Kusunoki dies. This dance tells the story of the Southern and Northern Courts era (1334-1338), during which Emperor Godaigo and the Kamakura Shôgunate vied for power.

Masashige tells his followers that they must part.
