The Shôgun of Chinju-fu (in Mutsu-no-kuni, modern Aomori Prefecture), Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, is sent by the fourteenth emperor, Emperor Kanmu (781-806), to conquer the great demon Inugami-maru, who is terrorizing the people. Inugami-maru sends his follower, Yasha-maru, to kidnap Old Man Wada's daughter, Ayame-hime. Old Man Wada is killed by Yasha-maru, but Ayame-hime is saved by the Shôgun and Yasha-maru is forced to yield to him. He becomes one of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro's followers and shows him the stone cave where Inugami-maru is hiding. After a fierce battle, Inugami-maru and the rest of his clan are forced into submission.
