Spellbound
By the resonating drum,
You begin to dance.

More than a god,
More than a demon,
A hero admired by all.

Since ages past,
Dancers
tell tales from home,
Of ancestral ways.

Kagura:
The flame of time.
Two types of Kagura are performed in the Chûgoku Mountain
Range of northern Hiroshima Prefecture. One preserves traditional dance styles; the other is modern and creative. They are equally passionate and moving. Every moment is packed with emotion as the dancers' bodies become one with their souls, lighting a flame in the heart of each and every spectator. The photographs in this collection capture these moments.
